A rainbow jersey on her shoulders and a home crowd on her side has reigning world champion Kaarle McCulloch feeling like a superwoman ahead of the 2019-2020 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup to be held at Brisbane’s Anna Meares Velodrome from 13-15 December.

McCulloch will be joined by a host of the Australian Cycling Team’s best as they battle for gold across the three-day event which acts the penultimate round of the World Cup Series and a chance to grab valuable qualifying points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“Racing in front of a home crowd is just out of this world, racing at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 was just amazing, I get goosebumps speaking about it, it was so special,” said McCulloch.

“It’s going to be extra special to do it with the rainbow jersey on this December. I find it gives you another lift, I feel like it gives you a bit of superhuman power.”

Sydney’s McCulloch surged to a fourth career team sprint world crown when she paired with Stephanie Morton to win the team sprint at the World Championships in Poland in February’s Track World Championships.

“Steph and I are the best in the world, and that’s not something to go quiet about,” remarked McCulloch. “We’re really excited to go out there in Brisbane and put on a good show for the Aussies.”

At February’s Track World Championships, McCulloch completed a set of medals with keirin silver and time trial bronze adding to her team sprint rainbow jersey.

While the entry lists are not yet finalised for December’s Track World Cup, fans will have plenty of chances to catch a glimpse of McCulloch with three women’s sprint events on the schedule – team sprint (Friday), sprint (Saturday) and keirin (Sunday).

“There are only four races to go until the Olympics, so these next races are important in terms of rehearsing and practising what we need to do to make sure we have the best chance next year,” she added.

“It’s an opportunity for us to go there and practice something and put ourselves out there a little bit and see what we can do under some pressure, especially riding in these rainbow jerseys on our home track in Brisbane.”
